Grantmaking Guidelines

The general requirements for eligibility are:

  • Organizations that work in and serve residents of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, and/or San Francisco counties
  • Public charities operating under an IRS 501(c)(3) status or fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) organization
  • Organizations that have an annual financial audit in accordance with approved accounting practices (or financial statements for the last completed fiscal year if audited financial statements are not available)

To respond to some of the immediate needs in the Bay Area community, the foundation’s grantmaking priorities have temporarily changed. For now, and throughout 2020, the foundation will focus its funding on our current grantees. At this time, we are pausing the open application cycles for the remainder of 2020. Depending on available funds, as well as a further honing of our middle school guidelines, staff will be in contact with current grantees about possible next steps in the coming months.

If you are a nonprofit seeking emergency funding during this extremely challenging time, please explore Philanthropy California’s list of response funds, which is updated regularly.

Please feel welcome to reach out to our team if you have any questions or concerns.
