The general requirements for eligibility are:
- Organizations that work in and serve residents of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, and/or San Francisco counties
- Public charities operating under an IRS 501(c)(3) status or fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) organization
- Organizations that have an annual financial audit in accordance with approved accounting practices (or financial statements for the last completed fiscal year if audited financial statements are not available)
The foundation funds in three areas—Middle School Youth Success, Safety Net, and K-8 Catholic School Scholarships – each with its own set of guidelines. The foundation accepts applications three times per year. Please visit the application procedures and submission deadlines pages for further details on applying.
In late 2017, the foundation’s board of directors approved a new grantmaking strategy that clarifies and focuses our giving areas. If your organization has received support from the foundation in the past three years (2014-2017), and is no longer eligible under the new guidelines, you may be eligible for one year of transitional funding.
